The work in this exhibition is concerned with the abstraction of the library, the book, the page. Some of the pieces incorporate 19th-century vellum documents, the text partly obliterated, and the artist books recall the precious manuscript books of the middle ages: looking at the old to see the new. As Duncan Macmillan commented, the exhibition is ‘not really about texts at all, but more about the poetry of books as physical things and of libraries as seed beds for the imagination from which the trees of knowledge can grow’.
